Abstract

Abstract. The modern information society amazes with the dynamism of the ongoing changes affecting all spheres of life. A significant part of the society of the new historical phase is engaged in the production, processing and sale of information, especially its highest form – knowledge. Every year the need for high-quality and accessible knowledge is growing. This actualizes the need to study such a field as higher education. According to 2021 data, more than 50% of school graduates choose secondary education as their future professional strategy. This choice is due to a large number of factors. Among them are the difficulties of passing the exam, and the high cost of studying at the university,
as well as a shorter path to the profession. To understand how modern schoolchildren choose an educational institution, as well as the expectations of high school students from higher education, a pilot study was conducted "The idea of modern adolescents
about higher education (on the example of the city of Vladivostok)." The exploratory nature of the study is due to the need for the authors to understand how to formulate the goals and objectives of a larger-scale study of higher education in the modern world. To form an idea of how and where Vladivostok schoolchildren plan to enter, the authors conducted a questionnaire survey. The questionnaire included questions, the
answers to which make it possible to understand by what principles future applicants choose a university and a specialty, whether their choice is influenced by the level of education of their parents. Tutoring services are an integral part of the modern university admission strategy. That is why, in the survey, the respondents were asked the appropriate question. The empirical data obtained as a result of the survey reflected which
city universities and specialties are popular among schoolchildren, as well as the main reasons and motives for entering the university.
